Thanks for posting that. I was showing this to my son and discussing the various pieces and the logistics of what it took to take that picture and realized he didn't quite grasp the scale of it. That photographed area is roughly the size of our great room and I imagine the camera had to be in the range of 'being on a ladder this high makes most people nervous'. Awesome.

You're welcome. Glad to hear/see someone explaining this stuff to a kid. That's the kind of attitude that got me into Engineering. It's a wonderful world.

If you're interested in more High-Res pictures of these engines, you can head over to the BMW Group Press site and search for "M5". You'll have to scroll quite a bit (their search engine is a pile of manure, so... no trying to search for "engine teardown" or "m5 engine"), but near the bottom there are lots of pictures of these individual parts from the picture I posted. May help to explain some parts. There are even some great cutouts of the airbox and the valve system.
